About El Castano!
Situated on the ever-popular Osborne Road, El Castano offers you a little piece of Spain in the heart of Jesmond.
An award winning extensive tapas menu incorporates a wide selection of dishes, all carefully prepared by our talented team of chefs, with produce sourced both locally and directly from Spain.
To compliment the superb food a fine range of Spanish beers and wines are available and our homemade Sangria is perfect for sharing with friends on the terraces whilst watching the world go by.
Our head chef
Head Chef Carlos Sanchez Ramos has been in charge of the kitchens at El Castano for 2 years.
Originally form Colombia, Carlos moved to London 9 years ago, gaining experience in some of the capital's best restaurants, including Mirabelle where he worked alongside Marco Pierre White.
Carlos takes a great pride in producing authentic Spanish and South American dishes using only the freshest produce and sourcing many of the finest ingredients directly from Spain.
On his (rare!) days off, Carlos enjoys experimenting with new recipes at home, trying them out on his 3 young daughters and is also involved in organising events for the South American community within the North East.
The bar
Alongside the restaurant, El Castano's refurbished Bar and Lounge area offers the perfect place to enjoy a pre-dinner drink or to simply relax at the end of a busy day.
With a great selection of Spanish beers , wines and spirits, the choice is extensive and the introduction of a range of freshly made cocktails has proved a popular move with regulars and new customers alike!
